Optimizing logistics without errors
Case: Smartlog is a company specializing in the design and implementation of automated logistics solutions. Large retailers typically handle a large number of shipments, in this case mixed pallets, manually produced from single-SKU pallets. Operators at the end of the line, called upon to produce the mixed pallets for individual super markets, are often lacking specific training and subject to high turnover. This takes the form of a a large number of errors, the consequences of which are more shipping, poor optimization, and in some cases damage to pallets on trucks due to poorly distributed weight or precarious assembly.
Solution: We developed a software solution based on the Lenovo AR glasses ThinkReality A3, directly connected to MIX mixed palletizing softwarePALL from Smartlog, capable of designing the perfect mixed pallet according to the individual packages in the shipment, their size and weight, and projecting the position of each directly on the operator’s view. The latter, in fact, after picking up the relevant package, looking at the pallet will see the outline of the package in the exact position and with the exact orientation in which it should place it, reducing the possibility of error to zero, reducing operator stress, and effectively putting the operator in a position to work as an operator with decades of experience, from the first day on the job.
