CGN Services Group, is the first group in the domestic business-to-business tax consulting market.
CGN Group, a leading business-to-business tax and employment consulting firm, uses DataCore ‘s dedicated storage solution for a distributed document archiving application that manages more than one hundred million documents. Bringing with it flexibility, resilience and data availability.
THE GOAL.
With the number of documents processed well over 100 million, the file system of the document storage software showed all its limitations. The storage dedicated to this specific vertical, developed in-house and consisting of a balanced application backend and SQL component, therefore needed to be adjusted to overcome this critical issue.
THE SOLUTION.
DataCore Swarm, a software-defined object storage solution for on premises and private cloud environments, has been adopted. It ensures that rapidly scaling datasets are continuously protected and immediately accessible by eliminating tedious storage management, reducing TCO and enabling distributed workloads.
RESULTS.
An easily scalable solution That allows no limits to storage volumes even when considering a large time horizon Swarm brought those resilience and availability features that are necessary for a modern document archiving system. The ability to use Protocol 53 kept open the possibility of moving to even partial data storage on the cloud.
THE SOLUTION ADOPTED: the software-defined object storage Swarm.
The main challenge that i| CGN Group faced was that of the sheer volume of data. Dealing with tax returns and serving 25,000 professional firms throughout Italy, the file system of the storage system proved to be a bottleneck. The internally developed document storage software–consisting of a balanced application backend, an SQL component, and the file system for the physical storage of files–came to be well over 100 million documents processed.
In this context, Swarm represented an easily scalable solution that allows for no limits to storage volumes, even when considering a large time horizon. Another primary need of the CGN Group was for robustness and reliability, and again the DataCore object storage solution offers the resilience and availability features that the document storage system requires. The ability to use the S3 protocol, which has become a “de facto” standard that keeps open the possibility of moving to even partial archiving of data on the cloud is another competitive advantage of Swarm.
The production implementation of DataCore’s solution took place during the 2022 fiscal year, and in parallel, the migration phase from the current file system-based structure to the new storage began. This is expected to be completed by the end of 2022 with the support of Eurosystem Spa of Treviso, a DataCore partner with whom CGN Group has long collaborated, which managed and coordinated the project.
“Swarm effectively meets our needs: it is an easily scalable solution that allows us to place no limits on storage volumes even when considering a large time horizon. Another primary need was for robustness and reliability, and again DataCore’s object storage solution offers the resilience and availability features that our document storage system requires.” – CGN Group
“The amount of data we are going to manage with Swarm will be about 20 terabytes per year. In parallel, we have begun the migration phase from the current filesystem structure, which will weigh about 80 terabytes, to the new storage, and we expect to complete this activity by the end of 2022.” – CGN Group
About the Group CGN
The CGN Group groups eight firms and is the largest in the national business-to-business tax and labor consulting market. It is headquartered in Pordenone, employs 260 staff and Iavors with more than 25,000 professional firms throughout Italy.
